Xcel Energy has made good progress in fixing their interconnection process for homes under construction. They are working on an automated, long-term solution and are implementing a manual solution for the interim. The following process steps will be necessary only until the planned adjustments are made in the interconnection application portal in the third quarter. Xcel Energy will notify customers when the more automated process is available and the changes in procedures that will need to be followed at that time. For now, the three-step process will work as follows:

When the application agent creates a new interconnection application for a home that is being built with a temporary service (i.e., temp meter and temp premise number), they will now be able to label the application “NEW CONSTRUCTION” in the comments section of the application. From there, they can request a “New Construction IX Application Form” (XLS) from our solar IXO team via email (SolarProgramCO@XcelEnergy.com). The form will only need to be requested once and can then be set aside as a template to be used again whenever necessary until planned changes can be made in the portal.

  • For solar installers that have partnerships with home builders tied to large neighborhoods with new homes, the spreadsheet form will suffice to enter as many application case numbers as they have.
  • For solar installers with a smaller number of new construction applications (or even just one-off here or there), the spreadsheet form can act as a template and the information can simply be sent in the body of an email.
  1. The IXO will retrieve the permanent premise number and enter it into the backend of the application for the purpose of engineering screens to come later.
  2. The IXO team will then leave a comment in the application that the app agent may proceed to the next steps in creating the application. (That comment will also trigger an email alert to the app agent’s email address of record in the portal account.)

The app agent will then be able to fill in the remaining fields, complete the 200% rule validation, pay engineering fees, etc. and ultimately submit the application for processing.
