Position Description
Origis Energy is seeking a commercially minded project development engineer whose primary responsibility will focus on Distributed Power project Design Engineering efforts. Reporting to the VP of Distributed Power, the ideal candidate will oversee the development of optimized solutions to be used in support of front-end proposals, project development activities and initiation of project financing.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with the Business and Project Development teams to understand off-taker/utility/program needs and provide cost-effective solar and BESS solutions
- Act as the primary internal subject matter expert for new project design technical details
- Manage technical and performance aspects required to respond to RFP opportunities and proactive project proposals with the Business Development and EPC team
- Work with Business Development group to pitch partner utilities on consultative sales
- Manage system impact studies, interconnection applications, interconnection agreement negotiations and queue positions
- Perform site visits and meetings with landowners and utility representatives
- Perform distribution grid analysis to assist land team with locating best potential sites
- Use internal GIS and development siting software to identify best project sites in target utility service area
- Evaluate early-stage risks and impact on design, energy and cost
- Coordinate with procurement team to align equipment selection synergies
- Provide PVSyst production and 8760 analysis to support project financial analysis
- Work with the Finance team to align designs around project financial structures
- Manage and oversight, in cooperation with the Project Development team, external Design Engineering consultants for all permitting requirements
- Manage assembly of technical scope documents to support PPA/EPC bidding and early-stage financing
- Establish and maintain relationships with external Owner’s Engineers and support technical discussions with IEs
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of 4 years PV engineering experience
- Minimum Bachelors of Science degree in Engineering preferred
- Knowledge of PV technical disciplines: civil, structural, mechanical, electrical
- Experience optimizing designs and maximizing values of DG scale solar with proficiency in typical production analysis and GIS related software, i.e. PVSyst, HOMER, Helioscope, Transect, Anderson Optimization
- CAD proficiency a plus
- Energy storage design, analysis and modeling experience a plus
- Experience managing local civil and permit engineers a plus
- Strong understanding of PV cost stack and how design considerations impact project LCOE throughout the development process
