The Opportunity…

  • Ensure community solar projects are developed, built and commissioned on time and budget
  • Originate new project opportunities through close collaboration with GRID’s Senior Director of Policy & Business Development, Community Solar team, and Regional Directors/Development Staff
  • Negotiate final site lease agreements with landowners and rooftop project hosts to ensure long term project and partnership success
  • Lead the land development process: complete critical risk assessments, secure development permits, procure and manage subcontractors to complete any needed Environmental Site Assessments, Civil work/engineering, geotechnical reports, Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans, title work, easement and other site development work/reports needed to move projects forward
  • Guide the negotiation of final utility interconnection and producer agreements, and work with Commercial Engineer to complete interconnection studies
  • Ensure that major equipment is purchased in accordance with financing contracts, and on time and within budget parameters by working closely with regional construction staff,  as well as the project design engineers and procurement staff
  • Develop and secure major community solar offtakers/subscription agreements through direct outreach and relationship building, as well as collaboration with regional staff, leveraging GRID’s software tools
  • Manage construction budget and timeline by working closely with regional office Construction Manager/Site Superintendent
  • Serve as primary point of contact between on-site construction staff and major project stakeholders such as financing partners
  • Establish internal processes and secure external subcontractors to ensure that each project has an asset management, operations and maintenance, outreach, insurance, and financial management plan to ensure projects are able to close on financing and generate long-term impacts
  • Manage a diverse team of external project team members with competing priorities, such as utilities, investment partners/co development partners, affordable housing providers, non-profit and community-based partners, government agencies, third party land/rooftop owners, and subcontractors such as civil engineers
  • Manage a cross-functional team of internal project team members such as regional directors/project development staff, commercial design engineers, procurement specialists, marketing managers, and operations staff
  • Support training of junior project developers from GRID National Community Solar Team and regional officers for proficiency in the process of community solar project development

What you need to bring to this role…​

  • Passion for GRID’s vision for an equitable renewable energy transition that benefits everyone
  • Five years of experience in community solar, commercial solar, wind or real-estate project and land development, or equivalent project development and management experience
  • Demonstrated success in managing complex multiyear projects with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • Detail-oriented self-starter who is internally motivated and also excels in a team environment
  • Flexible and willing to embrace change, go the extra mile, and bring ideas and energy to rapidly growing organization
  • Leadership qualities such as creativity, capacity to motivate others, understanding teams and their needs, eagerness to accept responsibility, and intelligent and action oriented judgement
  • Proficient with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project, Google applications like Gmail and GoogleDocs, and CRM databases like Salesforce. Ability to quickly learn new programs including: HelioScope, Energy Toolbase, and PVWatts Calculator

Where you will sit & the places you may go…

This position’s preferred location is in GRID’s office in Denver, Colorado but may be located in other GRID offices (Washington D.C, Oakland, CA or one of our five other California office locations). Some travel will be required (10-20%, depending on location and safety considerations relevant to COVID-19). GRID’s Community Solar team will be working remotely through 2020, at a minimum. GRID Alternatives may provide vehicles for work travel and/or travel reimbursement for personal vehicle use, but applicant must hold a valid driver’s license and good driving record.
